There are very few jobs as satisfying as power washing!  It might be the effectiveness of the jet stream driving all the dirt ahead of it in powerful rivulets, or it could be the satisfaction of that quick transformation from grime to gleam.  Whatever the reason, power washing is a very gratifying task.

Of course, it helps if you have the right tool for the job.  At The Dandy’s, Derrynoose, we carry a wide range of high pressure washers to suit everything from home cleaning to the larger industrial and farming cleaning tasks.  All power washers work on the same principle.  The water is pushed through the system by an electric or petrol motor pump and jets out at a high pressure.  But even though the principle is the same, all power are different and to enjoy the full experience of blasting stubborn dirt, you need to choose the right model for you

Electric or Petrol

If your use is confined to home and garden and weekend use, then an electric model will suit you fine. The electric power washer is generally lighter for carrying around and gives the right amount of pressure to get those domestic jobs done.  Some people find being plugged into an electrical outlet a disadvantage and care must be taken so that you don’t trip over the lead, or get the electrical connections soaked while working.   The petrol pressure washer is more suited to regular or professional use and is generally the one favoured by farmers. They just handle the larger jobs better and with no necessity for a power outlet, or extension lead, the allow you to move freely round the yard.

 Size Matters

Pressure washer size is determined by the pressure it provides and not by how big or small the actual machine is.  A 100 Bar washer /1,500PSI and below is your man for the small jobs. The wheeliebin, the car, the Barbeque and the kid’s toys.  150 Bar to 200 bar pressure washers will make cleaning the gutters, the decking, the patios and driveways a fun occupation. The heavy duty 200+bar pressure washers are the man for the big jobs like the tyre walls, or the yard flagstones, really dirty decking etc.   The psi is basically the water flow rate measured in litres per minute or hour. A high water rate will give a better cleaning and rinsing rate. Check the wattage on the electric models or the horsepower on the petrol models to make sure you have the power you want behind the water.

Attachments

The Power washer will come with a selection of attachment that can tackle any of the different tasks you have in mind.  Nozzles, brushes and detergents

Safety First

While power washing is an infinitely rewarding task, you should remember that the force of the spray can be dangerous. Wear safety goggles and shoes while using the pressure washer.  Never point it at another person. Take extra care of extension leads, wet and slippery surfaces.

Always test an inconspicuous patch first.  If the force is too strong it can cause damage and tweaking to a more suitable nozzle setting may take a few blasts of the washer before you get it just right.

A power washer is a real boon to any household, but it takes the heavy lifting out of cleaning farm machinery, tractors and trailers. Stricter EU regulations that cleaning is getting more time consuming. Farmers today, need powerful high pressure cleaners to reduce the cleaning times.  Drop into us, physically distancing of course! or pick up the phone and let us tell you more about the best power washer for your particular needs.
