Looking after the lawn
In a gardening world that is dominated with the new trend of rewilding, some of us still like our lawns to be trim, neat, weed free and moss free. A smooth lawn needs a little attention so that it stays in tip top shape. Greenforce ‘Instant Green’ is a powerful lawn tonic that will help to retain and encourage the deep rich colour of the grass. It helps to stop moss too. It’s a perfect product for grass that is a little discolored and literally ‘greens’ it up within 24 hours. Greenforce also produce a fantastic lawn feed that kills moss and weeds while feeding the grass itself. This product is the best value on the market as it has the most coverage per weight. And of course, The Dandys Derrynoose is the best place for value for any gardening items. It is best not to use this lawn feed in the 4 days before mowing and for 3 days after. Apply on a dry day when the soil is moist and there is no wind. You will be surprised to see how quickly the lawn will thicken and take on a lush green colour. Weeds will start to die after a few days but full effect may take 5 weeks as some weeds.
Watering is not usually a problem for gardens around here. In fact, if anything, we can get waterlogged from the generous amount of rain we get. But if the weather should take a summer turn, and you need to water that lawn, remember that a light sprinkling every day is sufficient, rather that a flood now and again. Mow the grass during the summer months at least once a week, keeping the grass at about an inch high. Cutting your grass too short encourages weeds. If the weather should get hot and dry, cut a little less often as the grass will be stressed. Most of the time you should collect the grass clippings and dispose or compost them. But sometimes it is better to let the clippings lie. By using a lawnmower with a mulching function, the machine can finely shred the grass clippings back into the lawn as a natural fertiliser. Not every mower has this function but it’s one of the many advantages of having a ride-on mower. Don’t forget to tidy up the edges of the lawn with a strimmer.
